The idea behind Artizen HDR is that it makes it easy to create richly dynamic images. That is, photographs that include a big contrast from dark to bright. Cameras can capture only a small part of the range in each picture but that limit can be overcome by combining pictures of the same scene at different settings, which is where this program comes in. To take the pictures, it's necessary to set the camera for a longer exposure (for the brighter image) as well as a shorter one for the lighter image. A tripod is ideal because if one isn't used, the images won't be aligned. The program can align them for you but we were disappointed with its ability in that respect. The final images it produced were impressive, though, with vibrant colours and the contrast you'd expect. It's also quite able as a general image editor, if a little less friendly than Photoshop Elements. The various menus can be tricky to follow, but there are some excellent tutorials and a free trial on the website.
